Literature theme ”Peter No-Tail”

Cat art made by pupils
We have become familiar with the famous Nordic children’s books and writers during the Nordic Library week in the last few years in our school. Some years ago we read Astrid Lindgren’s books, e.g. Pippi Longstocking, Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter, The Children of Noisy Village, and The Brothers Lionheart. This year the theme was concerned with cats and Gösta Knutsson. The year 2008 was his anniversary (100 years from his birth). Knutsson was also a Swedish writer. He wrote a popular series of children's books about the cat named Peter No-Tail.

Peter No-Tail (Pekka Töpöhäntä in Finnish) is a kind and good-hearted cat whose tail had been bitten off by a rat when he was a kitten. Peter No-Tail books contain many other cats such as Peter’s darling Mary Cream-nose (Maija Maitoparta), his adversary, the bully Mean Magnus (Ilkeä Monni), who never forgets reminding Peter of his lack of a tail, and Magnus' two followers Bill (Pilli) and Bull (Pulla), who are wicked and always repeat everything Magnus says. The cats mostly live in the area around the cathedral and the university in Uppsala.

Welcome to our school library.

In the classrooms we dealt with Gösta Knutsson’s books. In addition we made art, stories, poems, handwork, dramas and music. The school library was decorated with the pupils’ works of art. Furthermore we had reading moments, quiz programmes, different games, song performances, picture orienteering and so on. The bigger pupils guided the smaller ones during the lessons.
Becoming familiar with the town where the cats live.

It’s pleasant to play Peter No-Tail games.

Good-bye Peter No-Tail !
